“Dream big, work hard, and never let anyone tell you that you don’t belong on the ice”
Jenna Thompson
Hello Hockey Community!
I'm so glad you're here!
First and foremost, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for your enthusiasm and support for Puck Yea! Hockey and our growing community. The response has been truly overwhelming, and I can’t thank you enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
For those who may not know me, I’m Jenna Thompson, a lifelong hockey lover, tournament traveler, and the founder of Puck Yea! Hockey. While my roots are in the Minnesota hockey community, my vision for this league extends far beyond state lines. Whether you’re lacing up in Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts, or anywhere else across North America and beyond, you are welcome here.
A little about me: My hockey journey began at age 10 (shoutout to my mom!) after a short stint playing ringette because girls hockey wasn't offered by our local association yet. It didnt take long for me to fall in love with the greatest sport of all time and I’ve been playing ever since. Im so fortunate to live in MN, the state of hockey where there is basically a rink on every corner. This allows the MN hockey community to play year round with numerous options for league and tournament play. Over the past 10 years, I discovered a deep passion for traveling to hockey tournaments across the US and globally. Ive been so lucky to be able to travel to, Finland, Estonia, France, and Australia to play and was even lucky enough to celebrate championships in both France and Australia. (Pro tip: maybe Google "koala cuddle risks" before you dive into that tourist bucket list. Trust me.)
While Puck Yea! Hockey was born out of a love for the game and community in Minnesota, it was also created to offer something unique that complements and enhances existing hockey spaces everywhere. We aren't here to compete with other leagues or organizations, we're here to collaborate, support, and help the hockey community grow in a fun, positive, and inclusive direction.
A Core Mission: Building a Welcoming Women’s Hockey Community
One of the driving forces behind Puck Yea! Hockey is our commitment to building a women’s hockey environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and empowering. Hockey has given me lifelong friendships, irreplaceable memories, and a deep sense of belonging and I want that for everyone who joins our league.
Here are some of the goals guiding our women’s league and broader community:
1. Build a Supportive Culture
• Foster a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, harassment, or exclusionary behavior.
• Provide safe spaces for open conversations about challenges and experiences.
2. Emphasize Inclusivity
• Welcome players of all skill levels, ages, and identities, including trans women, non-binary players, and underrepresented groups.
• Create beginner-friendly programs so new players feel supported from day one.
3. Representation Matters
• Highlight diverse voices and role models in women’s hockey.
• Ensure leadership and coaching reflect the community’s diversity.
4. Encourage Community Engagement
• Host social events, tournaments, and skill-building clinics.
• Partner with schools and community groups to introduce more women and girls to hockey.
5. Celebrate Achievements
• Recognize individual and team milestones.
• Share stories of growth, perseverance, and connection.
6. Keep Communication Open
• Gather regular feedback to evolve our league.
• Stay transparent about league goals, policies, and plans.
We want the women’s hockey community we’re building to be a place where everyone feels they belong, where they can thrive on and off the ice.
The Men’s League
We're also incredibly excited to launch a men’s division focused on building the same community-first, fun-driven energy. This league is ideal for newer to intermediate players who want to improve their game in a chill, supportive, team-first atmosphere. It’s not about who’s the fastest or most competitive, it’s about playing a fun, inclusive, low-pressure game with good people who want everyone to feel like part of the play.
Our Bigger Vision
Puck Yea! is more than just games and schedules, it’s a growing community rooted in the belief that hockey should be fun, welcoming, and accessible to all. We want to foster connection, celebrate uniqueness, and help players fall (or stay) in love with the game.
If you're here, you're part of it. And I'm so grateful.
Please reach out anytime with questions, ideas, or just to say hi. My door is always open.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being part of this journey with me.
PUCK YEA! Let’s gooo!
Xoxo, Jenna
